The motif of this 2000 Desiree Christmas plate from the Porcelain Factory Desiree, also known as Désirée Denmark, Svend Jensen of Denmark, Old Copenhagen Blue is The Royal Hunting Castle “Eremitagen”. This year the motif of the Christmas plate is a little different than the previous years. This year the factory has not found the motif in a special Hans Christian Andersen fairytale, but instead found its inspiration in a part of the country as Hans Christian Andersen often was visiting. He spent lots of his summer holidays together with the Melchior Family in their place called “Rolighed”. In his diaries from this place Hans Christian Andersen was often writing about Dyrehaven (The Deer Garden) and the Eremitage Palace. The Eremitage Palace, or the Eremitage Hunting Lodge as it is also called, was used by hunting in The Deer Garden. Today the Eremitage Palace is still being used too the annual hunting named “Hubertus”. The artist Lis Torbøl designed this Christmas plate. Désirée started the Christmas plate series in 1970 and ended in 2002. All motifs of the Hans Christian Andersen Christmas plates from Désirée were inspired by Hans Christian Andersen´s Fairytales
