The Round Tower – 1992 Desiree Hans Christian Andersen Christmas Plate, Cake Plate

The motif of this 1992 Desiree Christmas plate from the Porcelain Factory Desiree, also known as Désirée Denmark, Svend Jensen of Denmark, Old Copenhagen Blue is The Round Tower which is found in the Hans Christian Andersen novel To be or not to be. With inspiration from Hans Christian Andersens novel “To be or not to be”, the designer Svend Otto S., has painted The Round Tower on the Christmas plate of this year. When you are in the Round Tower and are standing on the viewing point you are 35 meters above the street. To get to the point from which there is a view you have to walk through a wide passage, formed like a spiral. The passage is covered with paving stones because it should be possible for a horse carriage to drive to the library. From the library you have to walk through steps the rest of the way to get to the viewing point. Désirée started the Christmas plate series in 1970 and ended it in 2002.
