The motif of this 1993 Desiree Christmas plate from the Porcelain Factory Desiree, also known as Désirée Denmark, Svend Jensen of Denmark, Old Copenhagen Blue is The Old Farmhouse which is found in the Hans Christian Andersen fairytale What the Old Man Does is Always Right. Hans Christian Andersen starts his fairytale “What the Old Man Does is Always Right” with a description of a little cottage in the country. Svend Otto S., the well known Hans Christian Andersen illustrator, has catched the mood in the fairytale and painted the small cottage at wintertime with its lovely thatched roof, the small low windows, the old tree and the chained dog.
