The motif of this 2002 Desiree Christmas plate from the Porcelain Factory Desiree, also known as Désirée Denmark, Svend Jensen of Denmark, Old Copenhagen Blue is The Kings New Square and The Royal Danish Theatre. In 1670 the Danish King Christian V founded The Kings New Square. The king only wanted aristocratic palaces around the square and in 1748 The Royal Danish Theatre was founded. Many times Hans Christian Andersen tried to be noticed in the world of the theatre. He tried as a singer, dancer and as a playwright. This Christmas plate was designed by Lis Torbol.
This 2002 plate was produced in VERY Limited quantity. Actually there were a lot of problems with the production, so for a long time nobody knew if any were made.
Désirée started the Christmas plate series in 1970 and ended in 2002. All motifs of the Hans Christian Andersen Christmas plates from Désirée are inspired by Hans Christian AndersenŽs Fairytales
