The Cathedral Of Copenhagen 1949, Royal Copenhagen Christmas Plate

1949 Royal Copenhagen Christmas plate, designed by Hans Henrik Hansen, has as its motif The cathedral of Copenhagen – the church of Our Lady. Royal Copenhagen’s christmas plate from 1949 depicts Church of our Lady, the oldest church in Denmark, said to be built by bishop Absalon in app. 1200. In 1817 the church was destroyed by Lord Nelson, and from 1811-1829 the church depicted on the plate was erected. This church was designed by the famous architect C.F.Hansen. From 1924 this church has become the cathe- dral of Copenhagen, and inside the church many sculptures by the renowned sculpturer Thorvaldsen is found. On May 14th 2004 the Crownprince of Denmark Frederik and Australian Mary Donaldson (now the Crown princess of Denmark)were married in this church.
