The Hans Christian Andersen House is situated on the corner of two streets in the old part of Odense, denmark. Today the Hans Christian Andersen House is a museum. There has been some debate as to which house was the birthplace of Hans Christian Andersen, but according to verbal statements the small low-ceilinged house was pointed out as his birthplace. Hans Christian Andersen was the son of a shoemaker. He never forgot his childhood in poor circumstances and in many of his fairytales he has probably been thinking if this. The artist behind this first Christmas plate from The Porcelain Factory Desirée is Gerhard Sausmark. Désirée started the Christmas plate series in 1970 and ended it in 2002.
