1949 Bing & Grondahl Christmas plate, designed by Mergrethe Hyldahl, has the title Landsoldaten, Danish soldier from the 19th century. Bing & Grondahl’s Christmas plate from 1949 depicts herman Wilhelm Bissen’s famous sculpture ” Landsoldaten”. Bissen’s title to the sculpture was ” The common soldier after the victory”. This statue was erected after the war with Germany 1948-50, and it bears the inscription July 6th 1849. The Landsoldat is the first memorial for the anonymous soldier. The statue is situated in Fredericia in Jutland.
